The aim of this book has been to gather a variety of writings, some published as early as the 1970s, some very recently that represent current attempts to rethink the practice of history in light of the implications of what has come to be known as the Routledge. The aim of this book has been to gather a variety of writings, some published as early as the 1970s, some very recently that represent current attempts to rethink the practice of history in light of the implications of what has come to be known as the "linguistic turn". These writings, while strongly influenced by the linguistic turn, are nonetheless driven by a degree of dissatisfaction with its basic postulates. "After the linguistic turn", thus, is intended to signal historical thought that operates within the framework of the linguistic turn, yet seeks to move beyond its initial formulation and reception. The collected articles represent a range of responses to "linguistic turn historiography" and the key issues embedded in it, drawing on earlier works by figures such as Bourdieu, de Certeau, and Sahlins, to mention only a few names, in order to rethink the historian's understanding of his or her practice in a way that acknowledges the powerful insights that a linguistic approach......
