John Law: Economic Theorist and Policy-Maker Antoin E. Murphy
John Law (1671-1729) is most widely known outside economics as a rake, duellist and gambler. This intellectual biography of the Scottish-born economic theorist and policy-maker shows him to have been a significant economic theorist when economic conceptualization was very much at an embryonic stage. It also explains his ultimate failure....

Adaptive Learning by Genetic Algorithms: Analytical Results and Applications to Economic Models Herbert Dawid
This book deals with the learning behavior of boundedly rational agents in economic systems. In particular, the modeling of learning populations by genetic algorithms is studied in detail. After an extensive review and discussion of the existing literature in the first part, a mathematical analysis of the dynamic properties of genetic algorithm learning in the general framework of systems with a state dependent fitness function is provided. It is shown that co-evolutionary economic models typically fall into this class and the usefulness of the analytical results derived is illustrated in several game theoretic and microeconomic models. The mathematical analysis is complemented by extensive simulation analyses. The last part of the book demonstrates how the obtained theory may be used to design the algorithm such that the learning of equilibria of the economic system is facilitated....

Credit, Interest Rates and the Open Economy: Essays on Horizontalism Louis-Philippe Rochon, Matias Vernengo
The horizontalist perspective is an extension of the post-Keynesian approach that has hitherto focused on a theory of credit and money. This book extends horizontalism beyond its traditional boundaries and makes it consistent with the post-Keynesian theories of output and the open economy. The authors compare and contrast the horizontalist position with various orthodox and non-orothodox views on money. They argue that horizontalism is perfectly compatible with liquidity preference, credit constraints, and a flexible interest-rate mark-up, and address recent developments in banking that reinforce the validity of a horizontal schedule of credit-money. The overall intention is to place horizontalism within the current heterodox tradition as a general theory of the creation of money that is consistent with the post-Keynesian view on macroeconomic policy. Credit, Interest Rates and the Open Economy is essential reading for those who wish to expand their theoretical understanding......

Measuring the Value of Partnering: How to Use Metrics to Plan, Develop, and Implement Successful Alliances Larraine Segil
How does one accurately measure an alliance? With all the factors involved -- productivity, decision making, team performance, the number of new customers, and damage control -- getting a precise measurement can be a complex and daunting task. Knowing which measurement to use, and at what stage of the alliance life cycle, is critical. Measuring the Value of Partnering gives readers a system for measuring a relationship's contribution at every stage of the alliance, from creation to implementation to termination. This essential book features case studies drawn from interviews with key players at companies like IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Starbucks, Staples, and Hyundai. Weaving these and other real-life examples together, Author Larraine Segil helps readers develop the appropriate metrics and then shows how and when to use them accurately and intelligently to achieve the greatest impact. Timely and practical, Measuring the Value of Partnering provides the tools for......
